GEOGRAPHY IN EUROPE

EUROPE IN 1848

In 1847 a lot of things changed in Europe, The thoughts of the revolutions supposed various conflicts between great powers, bringing internal damages in the countries and the loss of territories. By 1847 Europe looked basically as it looks now, some territories did change throughout the years, but most of the countries have stayed the same.

For example, Spain lost Naples in a conflict between kings, Sardinia and Sicily. It also lost the territories found between the Dutch Republic and Netherlands. It was formed by the Peninsula we know now and the Balearic Islands.

Italy's principles came together and also with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. A part of Northern Italy was owned by the Ottoman Empire,

The Austrian Empire grew, It ended up dominating the territory that belonged to what was called in 1700 the 'Habsburg Monarchy'. It conquered Saxony and Venice. It came into constant conflicts with Prussia and Poland.

The Holy Roman Empire collapses and the kingdoms become individual kingdoms. This happens because it started to become conquered by Prussia and Austria, which faught against each other for the unification of the kingdoms.

France stays the same, except for the fact that it doesn't own Alace any more and that it conquered Corsica.

Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales come together forming Great Britain. Its borders are mostly within the borders that we know now.

Russia became much bigger, it conquers Poland and some territories in the Baltic Sea. In 1700 it wasn't that important because it barely had territories crossing the line of the Black Sea.

At last, the Ottoman Empire lost some territories, mainly on the coastlines of the Black and Mediterranen Sea. Slowly it became less feared in Europe as it started to lose a lot of territories and started to become weaker.
